Housewarming is the clearest case in the whole muhurat literature of a rite that wants the fixed nakshatras. Griha pravesh installs a household that is meant to stay put, so the Dhruva group — Rohini, Uttara Phalguni, Uttara Ashadha and Uttara Bhadrapada — is preferred above everything else, with Mrigashira, Chitra, Anuradha and Revati acceptable behind them. The waxing fortnight is close to mandatory, Rikta tithis are out, and Tuesday and Saturday are avoided because Mars and Saturn are poor guests at a first entry. Where the house is newly built, the entry is also kept clear of Panchaka, the Moon's passage from mid-Dhanishta to Revati, which the texts bar for roofing and for occupying new construction.
The seasonal shape is unusual too. Beyond Kharmas, griha pravesh traditionally pauses through Chaturmas — the four months when Vishnu is said to sleep, running roughly from the Sun's entry into Cancer to its entry into Scorpio — which removes most of the monsoon from the calendar. What is left clusters into Magha, Phalguna, Vaishakha and Jyeshtha, and that is exactly where the strongest dates below fall. The one thing no calendar can settle is whether the house is actually ready: an entry performed into an unfinished house is treated as no entry at all.

What is Panchaka, and why does it block a house entry?
Panchaka is the Moon's transit of the last 60 degrees of the zodiac — from the second half of Dhanishta through Revati. Classical texts name five works barred in that period, and three of them touch a new house: laying a roof, making a cot, and occupying a newly built structure. Our scorer computes it from the Moon's actual longitude rather than rounding to a whole nakshatra, so the half-Dhanishta boundary is exact.
Is there a difference between entering a new house and re-entering after renovation?
Yes, three cases are distinguished classically: Apurva (first entry into a newly built house), Sapurva (re-entry after travel or a period away), and Dwandwah (re-entry after repair, fire or damage). Apurva is the strictest and is what this page is timed for. Sapurva is far more forgiving and rarely needs a full muhurat.
Does the direction the house faces change the date?
Not the date, but it can change the hour and the sequence of the rite. Vastu practice ties the entry to the main door's orientation and to which deity is installed first. That is a separate layer from the panchang, handled by whoever performs the puja — this page only settles which days are open.
