A vehicle is bought to move, so its muhurat wants the movable stars rather than the fixed ones. Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha form the Chara group and sit at the top of the list, with Ashwini — the star of horses, and the oldest vehicle star there is — Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Anuradha and Revati close behind. The waxing fortnight is preferred, Rikta tithis and Amavasya are dropped, and Saturday is traditionally avoided for taking delivery, on the plain reasoning that Saturn governs delay and obstruction and a vehicle is bought to do the opposite.
Pushya deserves a note of its own here, because it demonstrates that these lists are not interchangeable. Pushya is the single most auspicious star for a purchase of any kind — Guru Pushya when it falls on a Thursday, Ravi Pushya on a Sunday — and yet the same Pushya is explicitly barred for a wedding. A star is favourable for an act, not in the abstract. Dhanteras and the Pushya days around it are consequently when Indian showrooms see their year, and they show up in the table below wherever they fall inside a clean tithi.

Is the purchase date or the delivery date the one that matters?
The moment you take possession — when the vehicle is handed over and first driven — is the one the classical logic addresses, not the day the invoice was raised. Where a dealer's paperwork runs on its own schedule, families book the payment whenever it suits and schedule the handover and first drive inside the chosen window.
Why is Saturday avoided for taking delivery?
Saturn rules Saturday and is the graha of restriction, delay and wear. For an object whose entire purpose is unobstructed movement, the day of the planet of obstruction is treated as working against the act. It is a preference rather than an absolute bar — a Saturday with an otherwise outstanding tithi and nakshatra is not ruinous, it simply loses points.
Does the first journey need its own muhurat?
If the handover and the first drive happen together, no. If the vehicle sits for days before its first real journey, then that journey follows the travel rules instead — including disha shool, the direction barred for the weekday you set out on. The travel hub covers that separately.
