Travel & Yatra Muhurat 2026 यात्रा
Travel is the one occasion here where the classical rules care about which way you are going. Disha shool assigns each weekday a barred direction for a journey begun on it: east on Monday and Saturday, west on Sunday and Friday, north on Tuesday and Wednesday, south on Thursday. It applies to the direction of departure, not the destination as the crow flies, and where a journey cannot be moved the traditional remedy is to send an item ahead a day earlier in that direction and treat the departure as already begun. Because it is fully determined by the weekday, we render it as a real column in the tables below rather than as advice.
Beyond direction, a journey wants the movable stars — Punarvasu, Swati, Shravana, Dhanishta and Shatabhisha — with Ashwini, Mrigashira, Pushya, Hasta, Chitra, Anuradha and Revati serviceable. Panchaka is barred for southward journeys specifically, and we exclude it here rather than track your direction. Rikta tithis and Amavasya are dropped as usual. One honest caveat: a pilgrimage undertaken on a fixed festival date, and travel booked around a work commitment, are both cases where the date simply is what it is — in those, use the hour and the direction rule and leave the rest.
Best travel & yatra dates in 2026

These are panchang-shortlisted dates, not a personal verdict. Each date below clears the classical tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana tests for this occasion, computed with a Lahiri sidereal ephemeris at New Delhi sunrise. The lagna rising at the hour you actually choose, your own birth chart (Chandra bala, running dasha, any dosha) and the day’s Rahu Kaal are NOT checked here — that layer only exists once a date is run against a real chart on the muhurat finder or with Soma.

Frequently asked questions
How does disha shool work when I am flying and the route curves?
The rule addresses the direction in which you set out from your own doorstep, not the great-circle path of an aircraft. If the first leg of your journey takes you north and the weekday bars north, the rule is engaged. Practically, most people resolve it by the compass bearing of the destination from home.
What is the "send something ahead" remedy actually doing?
It is treating the journey as already begun. By sending a token item — traditionally a small quantity of food, jaggery or a personal article — in the barred direction on the previous day, the departure is considered to have occurred then, and the day of the actual travel becomes a continuation rather than a beginning. It is a widely used practical workaround for unmovable travel.
Do return journeys need a muhurat too?
Classically the outbound departure carries the weight; returning home is not treated as a beginning in the same sense. Long pilgrimages are the exception, where the return is sometimes given its own consideration. For ordinary travel, timing the departure is enough.

How these travel & yatra dates were computed
Tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are read at sunrise in New Delhi from a Lahiri sidereal ephemeris; the Sun's sidereal sign drives the solar-month exclusions and the Sun–Venus and Sun–Jupiter separations drive the asta (combustion) bars.
The tests are Travel & Yatra's own, listed in full on the Travel & Yatra hub: 12 of the twenty-seven nakshatras carry its star bonus, 9 of the fifteen tithis its tithi bonus, and 4 weekday lords its weekday bonus. A waxing-fortnight day scores one point more. Across 2026's 365 sunrises those three were met on 160, 220 and 209 days, and 59 days cleared every bar and still scored 6 or better. Beyond the bars every act on this site carries, travel & yatra additionally rules out Panchaka, the Moon's last 60 degrees. Where a family practice differs from what is written here, the family practice governs.
