Engagement / Roka Muhurat 2026 सगाई
An engagement is a promise, not yet a bond, and the classical treatment reflects that. Vagdana — the giving of the word — asks for far less than the wedding: a waxing-fortnight day, a tithi from the standard auspicious set, and a soft or fixed nakshatra under which agreements hold. Thursday and Friday carry most of the weight, because Jupiter sanctifies the word given and Venus governs the bond being promised. Unlike the wedding itself, an engagement does not require the eleven vivah stars, which is why families routinely find a good sagai date in a month where no wedding muhurat exists at all.
Two practical differences follow from this. First, the combustion bars are softer: many families will still avoid Shukra asta for a ring ceremony, but the texts do not veto vagdana the way they veto the pheras, so we do not exclude those weeks below. Second, an engagement is frequently held on the earlier part of a day whose later hours are reserved for something else, so the hour matters more than usual — the Abhijit muhurat around local noon, or a Labh or Amrit Choghadiya, is the practical target once the date is fixed.
Best engagement / roka dates in 2026
Scanned 365 days of 2026 at New Delhi sunrise · 65 clear every classical bar for this occasion.
These are panchang-shortlisted dates, not a personal verdict. Each date below clears the classical tithi, vara, nakshatra, yoga and karana tests for this occasion, computed with a Lahiri sidereal ephemeris at New Delhi sunrise. The lagna rising at the hour you actually choose, your own birth chart (Chandra bala, running dasha, any dosha) and the day’s Rahu Kaal are NOT checked here — that layer only exists once a date is run against a real chart on the muhurat finder or with Soma.

Frequently asked questions
Can the engagement and the wedding share the same muhurat day?
Yes, and it is common where families want a single gathering. The classical requirement is only that the two rites do not share the same window: vagdana is completed first, in its own clean hour, before the wedding lagna opens. Where the wedding muhurat falls late in the day, the engagement is generally placed in the forenoon, well clear of that day's Rahu Kaal.
Do we need to avoid Kharmas for a roka?
Practice varies more here than for weddings. The strict reading pauses all samskaras during the Sun's Sagittarius transit; the common North Indian practice treats roka as a family agreement rather than a samskara and permits it. Because the two readings genuinely differ, we do not exclude those weeks from this list — if your family follows the strict reading, skip the mid-December to mid-January entries.
Does an engagement date need both charts, like a wedding does?
Less so, but not never. The main chart-level check is that the day does not fall in an obviously hostile Tara for either person and that neither is running an acutely difficult sub-period at the moment of the promise. It is a lighter check than the seventh-house and Manglik work a wedding date needs.

How these engagement / roka dates were computed
Tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are read at sunrise in New Delhi from a Lahiri sidereal ephemeris; the Sun's sidereal sign drives the solar-month exclusions and the Sun–Venus and Sun–Jupiter separations drive the asta (combustion) bars.
The tests are Engagement / Roka's own, listed in full on the Engagement / Roka hub: 11 of the twenty-seven nakshatras carry its star bonus, 7 of the fifteen tithis its tithi bonus, and 4 weekday lords its weekday bonus. A waxing-fortnight day scores one point more. Across 2026's 365 sunrises those three were met on 149, 170 and 209 days, and 65 days cleared every bar and still scored 6 or better. Beyond the bars every act on this site carries, engagement / roka adds no exclusion of its own, so what thins its list is the scoring rather than a season. Where a family practice differs from what is written here, the family practice governs.
